Rub

This group of drawings was made with graphite in stick, powder, and liquid applied in broad, vigorous strokes. Together with rubbings and rub-on letter, the drawings attempt to provoke a tension between the picture plane and a sense of visual depth.

No horizons, no vanishing points, just texture and contrast. And while rub-on letters and rubbings of letters and circles draw the eye to the paper’s surface, a gauzy sense of depth persists.
